Broward
Christian Homeschoolers (BCH) is VERY pleased to announce Broward
County Mayor Stacy Ritter, Fort
Lauderdale
Mayor James Naugle, and Hollywood Mayor Peter Bober, are officially
recognizing the homeschooling families in our area!
At 11:00am on Thursday, February 26, 2009, Broward Vice-Mayor Ken
Keechl presented Broward
County Mayor Stacy Ritter's official
Proclamation declaring February 22-28, 2009 as Homeschool Week in
Broward
County. The ceremony took place at the main branch of the Broward
Library in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Immediately following the
ceremony, the library's staff hosted a Story Time and tour of
homeschool resources at the library. Also, Broward Virtual School
provided information and materials about its FREE program for
homeschoolers. (Broward County Mayor Ritter's Proclamation can be
seen HERE.)
Also, on February 17, 2009, Ft. Lauderdale Mayor James Naugle issued an
official
Proclamation during the City Commission Meeting, which recognized the
homeschool families of his city and declared February 22-28, 2009 as
Homeschool Week in Fort
Lauderdale. (Mayor Naugle’s Proclamation can be seen HERE and a video of the City Commission
meeting is available on-line by CLICKING
HERE.) Note: The
presentation occurs 15:53 minutes into the meeting at around 6:17pm.
Additionally, on February 2, 2009, Hollywood Mayor Peter Bober issued a
Congratulatory Letter
in recognition of the home schooling families of Hollywood.
(Mayor Bober’s Congratulatory Letter can be seen HERE.)
These three historic events, and the activities for
Homeschool Week in Ft. Lauderdale (CLICK
HERE), have been
coordinated by board members of the Broward Christian Homeschoolers
(BCH), but they are not exclusive accolades of any one person or
group. Rather these achievements are in recognition of the
accomplishments and
dedication of the many families who have homeschooled in Broward County
during the 25 years home education has been legal in Florida.
“We
thank Mayor Ritter, Mayor Naugle, and Mayor Bober for their
recognitions of the home schooling families in our area. With
over 2800 homeschool students currently
registered in Broward County this school year, BCH believes no one
group, organization or individual represents all home school families
in our area. As a united front ALL homeschoolers are collectively
the strongest voice for home education.”
